I have taken a music file of my choice and manipulated to explore and understand the characteristics of new media.
Original Track
Original Track
Modified Track
When the music was recorded, the analog nature of the media converted into a digital one. That is, actually the numerical representation, the first characteristic of new media.
Each part of the track was individually manipulated using a software. Hence each part is independent of the other. So modular.
A fading filter was applied on the audio file. Hence, the volume of the audio file decreases and increases depending where it is applied. This is an example of automation.
The variability is when the audio file can be heard using various devices.
While editing the audio file, the software has lot of ques which make it easy for one to relate. Like for the cropping the audio a scissor icon is used. The scissor here is a cultural layer and the editing is done in the computer layer. This is an example of transcoding.
